The desk

A journal, not a signal service

North Compound is written by Isaak V in Amsterdam. The subject is how a person paid in euros can start investing without turning their phone into a second job: a cash buffer, a broad fund, and — only if it still makes sense after that — a crypto sleeve small enough to survive a bad year.

The voice is deliberate. Headlines elsewhere promise urgency. This desk assumes you have a rent payment, a tax return, and a finite amount of attention. Essays are dated. When a note is revised, the date says so. Nothing here is a personal recommendation, a forecast, or a relationship with Robinhood beyond a referral link that is labelled every time it appears.

If you use that link to sign up and deposit at least €50, you’ll receive €50 worth of crypto as a reward, subject to Robinhood’s current terms and your eligibility. The editor may benefit. You should still read the terms on the day. The offer page and the disclosure are the short versions. The journal is the long one.

Crypto can fall to zero. Equity funds can have long, dull, or painful stretches. Cash loses a little purchasing power and gains the ability to pay a bill. The essays try to keep those three facts in the same room.
