How to read a crypto price without chasing it
A price is a postcard from a crowd. It is not a set of instructions with your name on it.

You will look. Everyone looks. The skill is not monastic blindness. The skill is reading a crypto price as information about the present and refusing to promote it into a plan. Plans are written in euros per month. Prices are written in whatever the last trade cleared.
This note is for the moment after you have opened the app and before you have done something you did not schedule. If you do not have an account yet, you can still practice on any public quote. The buttons are the dangerous part, not the number.
What the euro number is, and is not
A quoted price is the last, or nearly last, level at which someone bought and someone sold. Your own buy may print worse once the spread and the size are real. That is why the fee and spread note belongs next to any chart lesson. A pretty quote is not your fill.
The number is not the value of “the network”, not a forecast, and not a judgment of whether you are late. Late compared with whom? A buyer from 2016 and a buyer from last March are having different afternoons. Your comparison is your own written plan.
Pick a window longer than your anxiety
Intraday charts are designed to move while you watch. A weekly or monthly view is harder to turn into a pulse-raising hobby. If you cost-average, the only window that matches the behaviour is the one between contribution dates. Everything inside it is weather.
Percentages need a baseline. “Down 8% today” is a different fact from “down 8% from the price you paid”. Know your own cost in euros. Apps are happy to show you a performance number that flatters the timeframe they chose. Your note is the timeframe that pays your bills.
The chase has a recognisable script
Green day, public excitement, a fear that the scheduled date is too far away, a larger-than-planned buy. Or the mirror: a red day, a public funeral, a sale of the long-term sleeve, a promise to “buy back lower” that has no written level. Both scripts feel like competence. Both are the opposite of the holding decision.
Put a speed bump in the app if it allows one: no price alerts for the first year, notifications off, biometric login that at least makes the tap deliberate. None of this is a strategy. It is furniture. Furniture is how adults keep promises.
A two-minute practice when you have already looked
Say the price out loud in euros. Say your planned contribution. Say the next date. If the urge is to do something else, close the app and write one sentence about why. You do not have to obey the sentence forever. You have to see it tomorrow, when the adrenaline is cheaper.
If the look was because you are about to make a first deposit, make it the planned one. The Robinhood EU referral is a doorway, not a timer. If you use the link to sign up and deposit at least €50, you'll receive €50 worth of crypto as a reward. There is no extra reward for depositing while a candle is tall.
